Our commitment
Gutter Brothers is committed to making our website usable by all people, regardless of ability or technology. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
Accessibility is an ongoing effort. We regularly review and update our website to improve usability for everyone.
What we've implemented
Visual accessibility
- Color contrast ratios meeting WCAG AA minimum of 4.5:1 for body text and 3:1 for large text
- Text resizable up to 200% without loss of functionality
- Clear visual focus indicators on interactive elements
- Sufficient spacing between clickable elements on mobile
- No flashing content that could trigger seizures
Screen reader support
- Semantic HTML5 structure (header, nav, main, article, footer elements)
- Proper heading hierarchy (H1, H2, H3 in logical order)
- Alternative text (alt attributes) on all meaningful images
- ARIA labels on icon-only buttons and interactive elements
- Skip-to-content links for keyboard users
- Form fields with associated labels
Keyboard navigation
- All interactive elements (links, buttons, forms) operable via keyboard alone
- Logical tab order throughout the site
- No keyboard traps
- Visible focus indicators
Mobile accessibility
- Responsive design across phone, tablet, and desktop sizes
- Touch targets sized per WCAG recommendations (44×44px minimum)
- Content readable without horizontal scrolling at 320px width
- Orientation support for both portrait and landscape
Known limitations
We're working to address the following known accessibility limitations:
- Interactive maps — our Leaflet-based service area map may not be fully navigable via screen reader. Alternative: all map data (neighborhoods, ZIP codes, service areas) is available in text form on the Service Areas page below the map.
- Before/after gallery images — some older project photos may have generic alt text. We're updating descriptions progressively.
- AI quote chat — the chat interface has basic screen reader support; we're expanding ARIA live regions for dynamic response announcements.
Assistive technology compatibility
Our website is designed to work with:
- Screen readers: JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack
- Voice recognition: Dragon NaturallySpeaking, Voice Control (macOS/iOS), Voice Access (Android)
- Keyboard-only navigation
- Browser zoom up to 200%
- Operating system accessibility features (high contrast, reduced motion, larger text)
Browser and device support
We test on current versions of:
- Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge (desktop and mobile)
- iOS Safari on iPhone and iPad
- Android Chrome on phones and tablets

Ongoing improvements
We conduct accessibility reviews on a regular schedule and address issues as they're identified. This statement is reviewed and updated at least annually, or whenever significant site changes are made.
Formal compliance
This website strives to conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We have not yet completed a formal third-party accessibility audit but plan to do so. Internal reviews are performed using automated tools (Lighthouse, axe DevTools) and manual keyboard/screen reader testing.
