Why gutter replacement costs vary so much
The price to change gutters in Reno ranges from $1,500 to $4,500 for most single-family homes, but the exact cost depends on more variables than most homeowners realize. Material choice is the single biggest factor — an aluminum replacement might run $8-12 per linear foot installed, while copper can push $24-40 per linear foot for the same house.
At Gutter Brothers, we've been installing and replacing gutters across Reno and Sparks since 2004. What we've learned is that the cheap quote usually isn't the real quote — contractors who lowball often come back with change orders for fascia repair, downspout upgrades, or 'unexpected' corners that weren't in the original scope.
What drives the 2026 price range in Reno
Several Reno-specific factors push or pull the price:
Roofline length and complexity — A simple ranch with 150 feet of roofline costs substantially less than a two-story with 300+ feet and multiple corners. Each inside and outside corner adds labor time.
Material gauge and type — .027" aluminum is the budget tier; .032" heavy-duty aluminum costs more but lasts 25% longer. Copper triples the material cost. Galvanized steel sits between aluminum and copper.
Downspout count and size — Standard 2×3 downspouts are included; upgrading to 3×4 (which we recommend for most Reno homes given our monsoon intensity) adds $50-80 per downspout.
Leaf guards or gutter protection — Adding micro-mesh leaf guards during a replacement is roughly $6-10 per linear foot. Retrofitting after the fact costs more per foot because of the extra labor.
Fascia condition — If we find rotted fascia during removal of your old gutters, it needs replacement before new gutters go up. Most jobs this is minimal; on older homes it can be significant.
Typical Reno/Sparks replacement scenarios
Here's what real projects have cost in the Reno area recently:
1,800 sq ft ranch home, Sparks (89436): 180 ft of 6" aluminum seamless, 4 downspouts, standard colors — $1,950 total, completed in one day.
2,400 sq ft two-story, South Reno (89521): 260 ft of 6" aluminum seamless, 5 downspouts, leaf guards added, Terratone color to match stucco — $3,400 total, one and a half days.
Custom 4,200 sq ft home, Galena (89511): 280 ft of copper half-round, 6 downspouts, hand-soldered corners — $9,800 total, two days.
These aren't estimates — they're actual jobs completed in the last 12 months.
